Today, 8th of September, is the 68th Anniversary of the beginning of The Siege of Leningrad (Saint-Petersburg). It is also known as The Leningrad Blockade. It was an unsuccessful military operation by the Axis powers to capture Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) during World War II.The siege started when the last land connection to the city was severed. Although Soviets managed to open a narrow land corridor to the city at 18 January 1943, the total lifting of the siege happened at 27 January 1944, 872 days after it began. The Siege of Leningrad was one of the longest and most destructive sieges of major cities in modern history and it was the second most costly in terms of casualties..

Today my day at work started with the sound of a siren in the street....they let us hear and feel all the fear that an air-raid alarm can bring to souls and hearts...God, i am so happy that i wasn't born on that awful time....and i am so sorry that the human is able to make such a disgusting thing like war...

Memorial Day..... thank you Elena for the history lesson and yes, war is disgusting. War in todays world is not only disgusting, but it is non-essential and that makes it worse than disgusting.

Today I entered the NY Times (At War) blog with this comment.

As an American who has no faith in any war whatsoever and who is way too old to fight, please allow me to expound on this killing subject. America is at war with the bankers, the insurance people, and wall street. America is at war with drug dealers, and criminals of all sorts. American cities are under siege on all fronts. We are losing in every department at home, financially, educationally, and morally. We are faced with weather related catastrophes with a cost in the billions. Our health and our health care is in shambles. We have a government that is more into helping themselves than their constituents. What I am trying to say is this, we are killing ourselves from the inside out and at the same time we are fighting a losing battle on a battle ground that is virtually unwinnable. We have a great country which is losing its grip so rapidly that we have no idea on what to do, because we do not believe it is happing. It wasn’t too long ago that most Americans thought real-estate could never go down in price and the market would always be healthy. Most Americans believe that we will overcome the problems of today as we dig a deeper hole to get out of.
We have a get-over mentality and our spirituality is loosing ground to hatred as we move further away from the love of Jesus and into the hands of evil. We have been duped, and we do not believe it is possible. There is only one way out of this mess and nobody wants to go there. So I will leave this blog with this great quote by Stephen Hawking,
“The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance…it is the illusion of knowledge".
